About the course

Introductory knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the process of removing a product from commerce.

  • Goal: Participants will be able to identify the recall process in regulatory programs.
  • Scope: Topics in this course include Foundations, Risk Assessment, Documentation, Communications, Recall Process, and Product Disposition

Course Objectives:

Foundations

  • Define key terminology,
  • Differentiate between recall classifications,
  • Recognize who initiates a recall, and
  • Recognize the importance of interagency and industry collaboration during recalls.

Risk Assessment

  • Recognize the importance of risk assessment to determine if a recall is needed,
  • Identify triggers that could initiate a recall, and
  • Recognize how the severity of a hazard combined with the probability of exposure affects risk

Documentation

  • Recognize documents used to determine the scope of the recall, and
  • Identify documents and records used to track product movements

Communications

  • Recognize the importance of communication during a recall,
  • Recognize the importance of communication between stakeholders,
  • Recognize how communication is coordinated during a recall,
  • Identify requirements related to information sharing, and
  • Recognize the roles of regulatory agencies in issuing public communications

Recall Process

  • Recognize how the decision is made to initiate a recall,
  • Define recall effectiveness, and
  • Define the process of implementing a recall.

Product Disposition.

  • Recognize the importance of product disposition,
  • Identify methods of reconditioning products,
  • Identify when a product needs to be destroyed,
  • Recognize coordination that may be needed between agencies for product disposition, and
  • Recognize how to verify product disposition.

Duration - 2 hours and 25 minutes:

  • Unit 1: Foundations – 30 minutes
  • Unit 2: Risk Assessment – 20 minutes
  • Unit 3: Documentation – 15 minutes
  • Unit 4: Communications – 20 minutes
  • Unit 5: Recall Process – 30 minutes
  • Unit 6: Product Disposition – 20 minutes
