a) Goal: The student will be able to exhibit introductory knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the elements of feed and food regulatory programs.
b) Scope: Topics covered in this course include foundations, laws and regulations, feed/food protection agencies, program standard areas, IFSS, mutual reliance (recognition and reciprocity).
Course Objectives
Foundations
1. Give examples of the basic duties of a feed and food protection professional.
2. Give examples of regulatory compliance actions.
3. Describe the role of education and outreach in a feed and food regulatory program.
4. Discuss the role of critical thinking as a feed and food protection professional.
5. Discuss the role of systems thinking as a feed and food protection professional.
6. Define relevant terminology.
7. Discuss the public health role of a feed and food regulatory professional.
8. Give examples of historically significant events that have influenced feed and food regulatory programs.
Laws and Regulations
1. Describe the differences between acts and regulations.
2. Discuss the legislative process for creating laws.
3. Discuss the administrative process for creating rules.
4. Give examples of the acts and regulations that guide food protection professional activities.
